Two-building estate winery campus with standing-seam roofing in Purcellville, Virginia
Purcellville, Loudoun County, Virginia

Walsh Family Wine

A 14,400 sq ft two-building estate winery campus in the heart of Virginia's densest wine corridor, delivered design-build from schematic through commissioning.

A Hearthstone Design Build project. This is completed commercial and estate work by our parent firm — not an ADU. We publish it as verifiable track record for the team that designs and builds Virginia Backyard Homes ADUs.

The Project

Walsh Family Wine is a two-building, 14,400 square-foot winery campus in Purcellville, delivered design-build by Hearthstone. One side runs working production; the other runs hospitality. Both had to sit on one campus, on one schedule, under one accountable team.

The exterior was specified for the Loudoun wine corridor — agricultural in proportion, refined in detail. A tan standing-seam metal roof sheds snow cleanly, heron blue metal siding with a wainscot detail breaks the scale of a 240-foot elevation, and black gutters and snow guards finish a package built to wear well across decades of working use.

Scope covered site and civil coordination, foundation and post-frame structure, the full exterior envelope, MEP rough-in coordination, and fit-out across both the production floor and the hospitality side. One contract, one team, one schedule.

Why It Matters To You

What this build teaches about ADUs.

  • Material selection is a maintenance decision. Standing-seam roofing and metal siding were chosen for decades of low-maintenance service — the same logic behind the durable exteriors we specify on detached ADUs.
  • Proportion is what makes a new building read as belonging. A wainscot detail breaking a long elevation is the same move that keeps a backyard cottage from looking like a shed behind a historic Virginia home.
  • Single-contract delivery removes the finger-pointing. One team from design through commissioning is precisely how we run an ADU: feasibility, design, permitting and construction under one roof.

Walsh Family Wine — common questions

Is Walsh Family Wine an ADU?+

No — it is an estate winery campus built by Hearthstone Design Build, the parent firm behind Virginia Backyard Homes. It is published here as verifiable evidence of design-build capability at scale in Loudoun County.

Do you build agricultural and rural structures for homeowners too?+

Yes. On rural and Piedmont land we design and build barndominiums as primary residences, a separate service line from our SB 531 ADU work.

Where can I see the original case study?+
